Northumberland won this return match by an innings and 39 runs at 5.20 pm on the second day, after enforcing the follow-on with the visitors 291 runs behind. The match between the two sides at Grimsby earlier in the month had also been won by Northumberland. For the winners, there were 12 fours and 4 threes in Gillespie's 103, scored in 2¼ hours. Gilman also scored 103, an innings also of 2¼ hours, which contained 2 sixes and 12 fours. In the Northumberland innings, these two batsmen put on 173 runs for the third wicket. Marshall scored 57. For the losers, Thompson scored 65, an innings that lasted 165 minutes, and there were 9 fours in Hibbert's 58 and Broughton scored 55.
