Staffordshire won by an innings and 24 runs at 3.35 pm on the second day, after Northumberland followed on 187 runs behind. For the winners, there were 5 fours in Briggs's 84 and Winser scored 66. In the Staffordshire innings, Winser and Bucknell put on 65 runs for the ninth wicket. On the second morning before play started, the umpires agreed to an upward adjustment of two runs to the Staffordshire score from 297 to 299 to reflect the fact that Winser's biggest hit off Elsey was a 'six' not a 'four'. Winser's own score was increased from 64 to 66.
