Surrey 2nd XI won this return match by an innings and 42 runs on the second day, after Dorset followed on 225 runs behind. The match between the two sides at Dorchester at the beginning of July had also been won by Surrey 2nd XI. For the winners, Rushby took 13 wickets in the match for 104 runs, including for 7 for 32 in the Dorset first innings. There were 2 sixes and 5 fours in Vigar's 95 and 6 fours in Rutty's 63. These two batsmen put on 157 runs for the eighth wicket in the Surrey innings which was a new championship record for this wicket beating the 152 added by A K Watson and R G Pilch for Borfolk against Cambridgeshire at Norwich in 1905. For the losers, Williams scored 54. This was the first championship match to be played at this ground.
