This was the first championship match played on the Goldington Road ground which was well known for its high scoring because of the short boundaries.
Bedfordshire won by six wickets before lunch on the second day but not before 4 wickets fell in their second innings when only 13 runs had been required to win.
For the winners there were 12 fours in Wharmby's 71 and 6 in Newman's 50.
In the Bedfordshire first innings Newman and Graham put on 64 runs for the seventh wicket.
For the visitors Hazelton took 6 wickets in the Bedfordshire first innings for 85 runs.
On the first day early on in Bedfordshire first innings W Adams was hurt while fielding and H Baker acted as his substitute fielder and caught Apthorp.
Subsequently Apthorp agreed that H Baker should replace Adams and bat in the Buckinghamshire second innings.
