LAHORE, 26 April 2005: The roaring Lahore Lions inflicted a massive 10 wickets defeat on the hapless Hyderabad Hawks in the ABN AMRO Twenty-20 Cup match at the Lahore City Cricket Association ground here on Tuesday.
Chasing a modest target of 116 set by the Hawks, the Lions Shahnawaz Malik and Imran Farhat joined hands tightly to amass 116 runs between them in 12.3 overs without losing their wickets. Both hammered the Hawks bowlers with consummate ease with Shahnawaz playing an aggressive innings, 61 off 47 balls and hitting three sixes and six fours in the process.
While Farhat was even more aggressive but was only able to face 29 balls for his 44 runs. He hit two sixes and sent the cherry four times across the ropes.
Earlier, Sajid Ali of Lahore Lions troubled the Hawks with his nagging length after the Lions won the toss and decided to field. Sajid took the wickets of Iqbal Sheikh (6), Rizwan for naught and Shahid Qambrani (5). Only Hanif-ur-Rehman showed resistance and scored 20 before giving Sajid his fourth wicket. Abid Ali (24) and Aqeel Anjum (23) made useful contributions. Jahangir Mirza took 2 for 24.
