At approximately 3.30 am on 5 December, a serious fire broke out at the Regent Plaza Hotel in Karachi, where ten of the United Bank team were staying. Eleven people perished in the fire and two United Bank players, Karamat Ali and Yasim Murtaza, were injured in the scramble to escape. In these exceptional circumstances United Bank requested the tournament administrators to abandon the remaining two days of the match and this was agreed.
