In a short time Jamie Dalrymple has earned a name for himself as England's utility man. Indeed as far as ODI's are concerned he is a genuine "all rounder" an accurate and incisive off spinner, a capable middle order batsman and a fine versatile fielder. As a bowler he bowls a tidy line and length and is difficult to get away. Interestingly it was as a batsman that he first caught the eye when in 2003 he became only the fourth batsman to score a double hundred in the Varsity match hitting an unbeaten 236. He also took five wickets in the first innings to underline his all round status. His batting since then has been more determined than spectacular but his bowling has improved and in action and method he resembles John Emburey his current coach at Middlesex. Not that his batting suffered in the bargain. In 2004 he hammered a career-best 244 against Surrey and a week later made a match winning hundred in the C & G Trophy against Glamorgan. The Nairobi-born Dalrymple is obviously a good prospect for the future going by his performances in the few matches he played since making his ODI debut in 2006 and was an automatic choice for the Champions Trophy in India.
